Three cheers for Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) for combating overzealous nannying by the USDA which has calorie limits on all kids eating lunch at public schools.
It is bad enough that we have principals who outlaw home-made lunch because they can’t “control” what kids eat.
And it was a shock when we read about a “food inspector” removing lunch from a pre-K student at a public school because her mom didn’t include a vegetable!
When the federal government mandated calorie counts for all kids eating school-made lunches, though, at least one legislator — Rep. King — decided to fight back.
For such efforts, we offer Rep. King the well-deserved title of “Captain Mommy”.
